The Sultan's Tent offers a lush French Moroccan experience with belly dancing nightly in lantern-lit tents among jewel-toned pillows. The Sultan's Tent's rich and elegant decor, partnered with its unique and flavourful menu, will undoubtedly leave you with an unforgettable, magical experience. The atmosphere creates a feeling of romance & celebration. Our jewel-tone fabrics, cushions & rugs create colourful, intimate spaces. Luxurious colours, details, and textures of Morocco help create a warm and cozy atmosphere reminiscent of scenes from Casablanca.

How it Started

The Sultan’s Tent was founded in 1991 at its first location in the affluent neighbourhood of Yorkville. With a seating capacity for 40 guests, the “Tent” was intended to provide one of the first authentic cultural experiences in the city. Combining the art of belly dancing with delicious French-Moroccan cuisine to offer a dining experience like no other. The concept was new to Toronto; professional belly dancers were just a few.

The near-the-floor seating and tables offered a unique ambiance reminiscent of old Morocco.  Coupled with lantern lighting, jewel colours of pillows and cushions gave the feel of dining in a Berber Tent. The restaurant enjoyed many years of success in the Yorkville area until its location became slated for demolition to make room for a Highrise building.

The Tent’s Growth

In 2005, the Sultan’s Tent found new owners and a new home at 49 Front Street E (Its current location) near the St. Lawrence Market and steps away from Meridian Hall (Formerly known as the Sony Center). The new home provided a larger seating capacity and a restaurant's front area dedicated to Café Moroc. This a-la-carte dining area combines standard seating with high tops and a beautiful bar. Café Moroc's design was inspired by the movie Casablanca and featured a white arching ceiling and an old classic bar reminiscent of its times.

The Sultan’s Tent became a Toronto icon, with many celebrities visiting and large-profile events inside its walls.  An active member of the Toronto tourism scene and supporter of many foundations and worthy causes.

The Tent Today

The Sultan’s Tent became a Toronto icon, with many celebrities visiting and large-profile events inside its walls—an active member of the Toronto tourism scene and supporter of many foundations and worthy causes. In 2018, The “Tent” changed hands to its current ownership, reviving its beauty and slogan “Where Toronto Celebrates” by upgrading some of its systems, music and menu. Our team has worked hard to provide every guest a memorable experience.

The building façade has been renovated and refaced to make it even more beautiful since October 2021.  The “Dixon” building, as it was known a long time ago, is considered a heritage building and was founded in 1872 and was constructed from cast iron. Construction ended in June 2022 and revealed a new face for the home of The Sultan’s Tent.

We look forward to hosting you soon.
